When upgrading from Thunderbird version 60 to version 68, add-ons are not automatically updated during the upgrade process. They will however be updated during the add-on update check. It is of course possible to reinstall compatible add-ons via the Add-ons Manager or via addons.thunderbird.net.
I have a userChrome.css and userContent.css working here in TB 68.3.1. If you have css files, the preference toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets is automatically switched to true from its default. Future versions may not support style sheets.

Thanks for your suggestion. When I looked it up using Firefox( at this location: -US/thunderbird/addon/headertools-lite/) as you can see the note says it's compatible with TB68. But don't I need to actually install it from within TB? Because when I look it up from TB I don't get that screen but one that's almost the same but says HeaderToolsLite is not compatible with TB68. So my question is can I download it from the link above and skip downloading it from within TB?
No, that IS a Problem. Your extensions were probably the Old Kind that were not supported in newer versions of TB.Going back ONE Version is NOT going to help if that is the case ... you need to go Back to the version that WAS working for you. I can't help if it is so old you couldn't remember what version it WAS. -US/kb/unable-install-add-on-extension-theme-thunderbird Version 60 ruined all of the Extensions that WERE working up until that version ... did you have TB 58 installed?
"The latest version is compatible with TB 68, but it seems that Thunderbird fails to automatically update the add-on in some cases. Please update manually by downloading the latest compatible version from the Mozilla add-ons page: -US/thunderbird/addon/xnotepp/"
I was thinking of that but the other Thinkpad X1 in our office also has Thunderbird portable, configured the same since it was my machine previousy, and has updated properly to TB v68.x. This machine runs Windows 8.1 while my Thinkpad X1, the one that doesn't update TB from v60.x to v68.x, runs Windows 10. Windows 10 if really funky so I was thinking it has something to do with TB and W10.
You can download it on official thunderbird websiteThen extract it, for example in /home/$USER/Downloads/If you launch thunderbird runable file (from nautilus), it runs but doesn't find your profil so, I launched it from terminal: 2ff7e9595c
